“When I was 10 years old I was a baton twirler. My mom made all of my costumes and painstakingly sewed sequins onto pleats, gauntlets, stars and even made a blue sequin hat out of a form over the top of an empty coffee can!
I’ve kept a few of those items of clothing for over 50 years now. The hand-sewn sequins are a reminder to me of the love my mother had for me, then and now. She has selflessly served our family in countless ways, big and small. Just yesterday, when I left her place she insisted on making me a sandwich for the plane ride home. At 86 she is still serving me.
I love this special day set aside to celebrate mothers. Today, I love and honor my mother and the women in my life who loved me and my children first.
Happy Mother’s Day, my friends
