1970s Dawn Doll Majorettes Boast Cult Following

Dawn Doll Majorettes

Dawn dolls were produced by the Topper Corporation from 1969 until the company filed for bankruptcy in 1972. Despite their brief appearance on store shelves, the dolls gathered a large cult following that still exists today. For example, Dawn Doll groups abound on Facebook, and a few websites dedicated to the dolls have been around for more than 20 years.

Measuring 6 1/2 inches tall, Dawn dolls (branded Dawn & Friends) were sometimes referred to as little Barbies. The four original dolls were Dawn, Angie, Glori and Dale. Later the company offered Jessica; Gary; Ron; Kevin; Denise; Melanie; Daphne, etc. Best of all, in 1972, Topper released a line of three majorettes: Majorette Dawn, Majorette, Connie and Majorette Kip. There was also a foreign version of Kip, Majorette April, which was sold in the United Kingdom.

Majorette Dawn dolls are frequently for sale on sites like eBay and Etsy. I saw one today of Majorette Connie, still in the box, selling for $85.00. These beautiful dolls make great gifts for twirlers, young and old.
