The Baton Twirling Preservation Society is looking for volunteers from across the country to help preserve and document the history of baton twirling, one state at a time.

Twirling Historians will help uncover the people, places, photographs and stories that shaped baton twirling in their states. That might mean interviewing a former majorette, researching a long-forgotten twirling corps, identifying people in an old photograph, finding newspaper clippings, documenting a college tradition or simply helping make sure an important story isn’t lost.

No professional research experience is required. Training will be provided. We’re looking for people who are curious, enthusiastic about twirling history and willing to do a little digging.

Historians will have opportunities to contribute research and stories, participate in occasional Zoom gatherings, connect with others interested in preservation and enjoy a few special perks along the way.

The goal is eventually to have Twirling Historians representing all 50 states.

Online applications for the volunteer program will open on this page September 1, 2026. Participants must be 16 or older. 

And if you’re outside the United States and would like to participate, we’d still love to hear from you. Baton twirling history extends far beyond our borders, and international participation is welcome.
