Mrs. Majorette of America: A Title for Married Twirlers

Mrs. Majorette of America was a competition started by the National Baton Twirling Association sometime in the 1950s. Titleholders, however, are not listed in Don Sartell’s book, History of Twirling.
According to an article in the March 5, 1963 Toronto Telegram. Joan Cousins was named Mrs. Majorette of America after competing for the title against competitors from the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan and France. This indicates that the Mrs. Majorette of America competition was international in nature. Other news sources including a November 3, 1971 article in Atlanta Journal state titleholders were named by Drum Major Magazine, a former publication of NBTA. This could indicate that later the title was bestowed ceremonially.
