French filmmaker Chloé Jouannet is expanding her 2024 award-winning short film Allez ma fille (My Little Girl) into a feature-length motion picture scheduled for release in 2027.
The original 15-minute comedy follows a recently divorced father as he navigates the unfamiliar world of competitive baton twirling while supporting his teenage daughter, Jade. The film earned the Jury Prize for Best Short Film at the 2024 Alpe d’Huez Comedy Film Festival and has since screened at festivals throughout France.
Feature-Length Adaptation
The feature-length adaptation shifts the spotlight even more squarely onto the sport. According to the production synopsis, Jade is a 17-year-old competitive baton twirler preparing for regional championships while balancing family challenges, a demanding coach and a baton club struggling to survive. Competition, coaching and club life are central to the story.
Competitive Twirling Drives the Story
Feature films built around competitive baton twirling are uncommon. While baton twirlers have appeared in movies, television series and commercials for decades, they have typically been limited to supporting roles or brief appearances. Allez ma fille is unusual in placing the sport at the center of the narrative.
Production began earlier this year in France, with a theatrical release planned for 2027. Information about international distribution has not yet been announced.
