Such a fabulous picture of Buddy Ronald “Ronnie” Lowery (1953-2018), feature twirler for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, 1968. Lowery was 18 and a college freshman at the time as well as the five-time reigning Oklahoma baton twirling champion, as reported by the Oklahoma Times. In addition to conventional batons, he twirled hook knives, machetes, lariats, fire batons, and double flags. We think his sequined suit is fabulous!
Lowery graduated from Daniel Webster High School, Tulsa, in 1968, along with his twin brother, Donnie. After twirling for Northeastern, Ronnie became a cosmetologist, and later, worked for and retired from Tulsa County. He died at the age of 67.
