This image of an early majorette troop hails from Burlington, Vermont. It is undated; however, based on the uniform style including shoes and drop waist dresses, we’re guessing it was taken in the late 1920s or early 1930s. Each woman carries an American flag except the leader of the troop. She carries a small baton and also wears a cape and different colored hat.
The photo was taken by Louis L. McAllister (1887-1963). He was born in Omaha, Nebraska and moved to Vermont as a young man. An avid photographer, by the time he died, he had amassed a beautiful collection of more than 1,300 photographs including several images of majorettes spanning at least three decades.
