Majorettes on Memorial Day, circa

This photo features two Pennsylvania majorettes on Memorial Day during World War II. They are Jeanne Goeppert (left) and Alma Herring (right). They are standing with a floral wreath inside the Freeland Cemetery, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. This image was a good candidate for restoration. We’ve published the before and after so you can see the differnece.

Every year, on Memorial Day, the Freeland High School Band would gather at the Borough Hall for a parade. They’d march to the Freeland Cemetery for a beautiful service before gathering at a park for food, fun and games.

This photo of the Freeland High School band is from 1941 or 1942. Jeanne Goeppert was the head majorette. She is on the back row in the middle in the dark uniform.
