University of Kentucky Sweetheart Majorettes and Feature Twirlers
The University of Kentucky has one of the strongest and longest-standing Majorette programs in the Southeastern Conference. The UK Wildcat Marching Band welcomed the first UK Sweetheart Majorettes and Feature Twirlers on old stoll field in 1968. Cherie Hubbard Roethe and Joanne Windish Ingram were the first feature twirlers. More than 150 girls competed for 10 majorette positions.
Through the years, the UK Sweethears have become known for their rich tradition of excellence. Here is a beautiful collection of vintage photos of the UK majorettes and feature twirlers from the 1970s.

I’ve been alive forever
And I wrote the very first song
I put the words and the melodies together
I am music and I write the songs
I write the songs that make the whole world sing
I write the songs of love and special things
I write the songs that make the young girls cry
I write the songs, I write the songs
