This Is How You Dream

As a little girl growing up in the Iberville Project, I remember going to parades on Canal Street with my mother and siblings. I would watch in awe as the bands and majorettes marched by—especially the ones from John McDonogh Senior High, “The MAC.”

I told myself, “One day, I will be like them.”

That little girl kept believing. I not only attended John Mac, but I became one of the majorettes—and eventually, the Captain, in my senior year.

Never let anyone tell you that your dreams aren’t real.
Because I am living proof that they are.

Keep dreaming. Keep dancing. Keep going.
