Sacramento High School Majorettes, July 4, 1943

Happy Fourth of July! Majorettes were made for Independence day parades and patriotic costumes! We love this photo of the Sacramento High School Majorettes from 1943.

Their hair is curled, their hat fringe is festive, their American flags are held at similar jaunty angles – it’s the 1943 Sacramento High School Majorettes! That year, the traditional Sacramento 4th of July parade and fireworks were cancelled due to the war. Fortunately, there were other activities for those looking to do something patriotic. Locals could attend a performance by the McClellan Field 360th Army Air Force Band at William Land Park or visit an open house at Mather Field. There, soldier guides escorted visitors to points of interest around the base.
