The longest running music festival in West Virginia is the Gazette-Mail Kanawha County Majorette and Band Festival. Started in 1947, it is dedicated to public high school marching bands and majorette corps in Kanawha County. Since the very beginning, it has featured the Miss Majorette of Kanawha competition. A complete list of winners from 1947 to present day is available on Wikipedia.
In 1961, Phyllis Zabel, a majorette from Stonewall Jackson High School, was the winner. She is pictured below in these beautiful black and white photographs.
